Janis Montei, PT, OCS

Janis is a board certified, clinical specialist in orthopedics and has been serving the Kalamazoo area since 1980. She has expert training in manual therapy and osteopathic techniques. She feels patient education is vital to helping patients learn how to make wise decisions about their body movements and activities and that education is a critical part of each visit. She helps her clients understand their condition and how to best manage their symptoms.

She effectively treats neck and back pain, all extremity joint problems, and TMJ with excellent outcomes. She has vast experience in sports medicine from the triaging stage of acute sports injuries through full rehabilitation and has helped thousands of athletes return to their sports. She is an expert in pre and post-operative physical therapy and is known for high quality outcomes.

Janis’ niche practice is helping performing artists stay in the spot light. She is known as the “go to” therapist for dancers, gymnasts, skaters, musicians, and actors. She has provided backstage physical therapy at the Miller Auditorium and Dalton Theatres. Janis understands both the physical and emotional pressures a performing artist faces since she has an extensive background in ballet and realizes the “show must go on!” She has attended dance medicine conferences at the Harkness Center in New York City and at the University of Michigan, her alma mater. She served on WMU’s Partner in Dance board and Corey Terry’s Wellspring Dance board.

Other interests and volunteer work include: Borgess Run Camp Coach for 4 years, providing medical staffing for the Kalamazoo Marathon, and Gazelle Sports injury clinics.

Janis is a friendly, motivating, and experienced therapist who loves helping others have less pain and better capabilities. She is grateful for all the wonderful people she has met through her practice and looks forward to meeting more people.
